SQL-Programmer – Software Product , SQL Editor and Debugger
Sylvain Faust Inc, a Canadian company, developed the SQL-Programmer quite a few years ago. The Texas based BMC Software subsequently took over the company in 2000.
What are the versions and operating systems it supports?
This program is compatible with all Windows operating systems ranging from 95 to ME. Oracle 32-bit SQL *Net and Oracle version 7.x or an advanced version is necessary for running the program. SQL runs on Microsoft SQL server: 4.2 to 7.0 as well as SQL Server SyBase SQL Server 4.8 to System 11, SQL Server 2000 and all versions of SYBASE Enterprise Connect Gateways.
How is it installed?
All necessary information can be availed from “Quick Tour”. Installation can be done via network or local install option after purchasing the license. Installation path can be chosen by the user. Existing SQL files are overlaid and the process is quick. The system reboots after installation. NT 4.0 with Oracle 8.1.6 tested the three systems.
How is it useful to a developer?
Using this, creation of PL/SQL stored procedures and all functions related to them can be done. Existing code can be formatted and existing PL/SQL programs can be read, debugged and modified without altering them or saving them. It is flexible for developers to generate scripts. It presents a good interface for executing procedures. The help SQL button offers complete and swift reference to different PL/SQL constructs. Keyword search is very easy through this.
What problems can be solved?
Software development process can be sped up, compile errors can be corrected easily, scripts can be easily generated and documented on different stored objects. Debugger can be used for troubleshooting. It can effectively be used by Oracle DBAs and developers.

The competitive products are Quest software products like TOAD, which costs $520 for debugger in addition to $670. Quest software also offers SQL Navigator.

The SQL-Programmer provides a perfect platform for developers. Being compatible with various platforms like Microsoft databases, Sybase and Oracle, it lends higher flexibility in developments. The tools and applications provided in the platform can be used to color code, examine, and formulate tables, editing triggers and a variety of other functions. Debugger is a very useful tool for programs. Search feature is very powerful. Query Builder and Personal Command Post are new editions, which have made the program more attractive from developer’s point of view. A very useful feature is PL/SQL Reformatter, which helps in reorganizing different data. Using the code metrics tab feature helps in breaking down modules, built-ins, SQL content, procedural content and other functions. FreeSql can be used to write and execute queries.
Limitations
The only problem with SQL-Program is the table content display. User cannot select large objects and the resizing of column widths is not possible manually.
